A Mini decidiu criar uma versão muito especial na sua linha. O Mini John Cooper Works Challenge foi concebido para oferecer o mesmo desempenho de condução em pista, mas sem que os confortos do uso diário fossem sacrificados. A série especial de apenas 100 unidades foi desenvolvida por funcionários da fábrica de Oxford que, por iniciativa própria, decidiram conceber uma configuração arisca em circuitos fechados, mas que também pudesse ser usada no dia a dia sem maiores atropelos. Detalhes como uma suspensão excessivamente dura ou um ronco de escapamento muito acirrado, por exemplo, podem inviabilizar projetos comerciais interessantes.
O melhor de todos até hoje >> A equipe trabalhou em parceria com os principais fornecedores da Mini para captar as melhores soluções para uma máquina que também pudesse ser utilizada num divertido ´track-day´. O modelo tem pneus Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, suspensão ajustável, diferencial auto-blocante e, segundo o fabricante, o desempenho do Mini Challenge atingiu níveis nunca antes vistos nesta marca britânica.
Trem de força >> A base desse esportivo é o Mini John Cooper Works hatch, também fabricado em Oxford. Alimentado por um motor 2.0 TwinPower Turbo de 4 cilindros em linha, o compacto tem 231 hp de potência e 32 kgf.m de torque máximo. A configuração permite uma aceleração de 0-100 km/h em apenas 6,3 segundos. Para o deleite dos fãs puristas, essa versão somente vem equipada com transmissão manual de seis marchas.
Diferenciais >> O modelo bem exclusivo é facilmente identificável por algumas características únicas desta série, tais como: entradas de ar ampliadas na parte frontal, spoiler traseiro, rodas pintadas em preto, pinças de freio vermelhas da Brembo e listras negras no capô. No interior, os bancos são esportivos do tipo concha e o volante também tem desenho especial.
Componentes de corrida >> Mas não é somente o estilo que é diferenciado nesse Mini Cooper. Todo o esquema de suspensão recebeu peças de competição, daí, o comportamento dessa versão é ainda mais estável que o line-up tradicional. As molas e amortecedores ajustáveis NTR1 são da marca Nitron; o ajuste de camber no eixo dianteiro permite um aumento da curvatura negativa; o diferencial de deslizamento limitado veio da Quaife e as pastilhas de freio são da Mintex. Finalizando a receita, a solução para, definitivamente, grudar o carro ao chão, veio da adoção do aclamado composto Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. Nesse carro a Mini usa rodas aro 17” com pneus nas medidas 215/45. A assinatura da pequena obra de arte está no escapamento Pro-JCW em aço inox com ponteiras em fibra de carbono. The Mini John Cooper Works Challenge is designed to offer the same driving performance on the track, but without the comforts of daily use were sacrificed. Powered by a 2.0 engine 4 cylinder Turbo TwinPower online, the Compact has 231 horsepower and 32 kgf.m maximum torque. The configuration allows an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. To the delight of fans purists, this version only comes equipped with six-speed manual transmission.
Differentials >> The very exclusive model is readily identifiable by some unique features in this series, such as enlarged air intakes on the front, rear spoiler, black painted wheels, Brembo red brake calipers and black stripes on the hood. Inside, the seats are the shell type and the wheel also has special design.
Racing components >> But it’s not just the style that is differentiated in this Mini Cooper. All received suspension scheme competition parts, hence, the behavior of this version is even more stable than the traditional line-up. Springs and adjustable dampers are brand NTR1 Nitron; the front axle camber adjustment allows an increase in negative curvature; the limited slip differential came from Quaife and the brake pads are the Mintex. Finishing the recipe, the solution to, definitely stick to the car to the ground, came the adoption of the acclaimed compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. In this car the Mini uses wheels 17″ with tyre 215/45 measures. The signature of the small work of art is in the exhaust Pro-JCW in stainless steel with carbon fiber tips.
